Year 1 to Year 4: English Literature
These courses aim to improve pupils’ reading interest, skills and habits.

Students will be exposed to a broad range of books and focus on each book over several weeks. Class activities involve group reading, class discussion and teacher-student interactions. Weekly homework tasks will also be given and help to reinforce students’ understanding.
Year 1 to Year 3: English Writing
These courses are designed to develop pupils across the different strands of writing: imagination and ideas, audience and purpose, handwriting, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
What your child will learn:
  • Draft and write
    Organising paragraphs around a theme;In narratives,  creating settings, characters and plot.
  • Evaluate and edit
    Proposing changes to grammar and vocabularyto improve consistency, including the accurate use of pronouns in sentences.
  • Proofreadfor spelling and punctuation errors
Year 2 and Year 3: Vocabulary
These courses aim to expand students’ vocabulary within context. Each class is structured around fun and engaging topic areas and includes games, quizzes and riddles to help boost learning.
Year 4: 11Plus Foundation
These courses are designed to lay strong foundations for Year 4 pupils in maths, English (including comprehension, writing and vocabulary), Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning.

Year 4 children will learn all the concepts required for the 11 Plus Preparation Course in Year 5. They will also be introduced to technique, timing and mock exam practice. The classes are leb by qualified British school teachers. A range of educational activities are used to stimulate and motivate Year 4 pupils.

English Comprehension: Kew Learningqualified and experienced teachers help children to read attentively and understanda variety of texts.  We cover the basicsof grammar and punctuation and aim to expand children's vocabulary in a fun andeducational way.

English Writing: This class focuseson introducing various writing styles and how they are structured along withnecessary grammar and vocabulary skills needed for writing. In class, the tutorwill discuss the various writing topics and work with the students in planningfor their writing.

Year 5: 11Plus Preparation
The 11 Plus Preparation Course is designed to prepare Year 5 pupils for their 11 plus Entrance Examinations into Grammar and Private Schools.

Year 5 children will develop their skills in maths, English (including comprehnsion, writing and vocabulary), Verbal and Non-verbal reasoning. They will also be introduced to technique, timing and mock exam practice.

English Comprehension: In preparation for the 11+ exam, Kew Learning qualified and experienced teachers develop children’s reading skill by exposing them to a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. They also guide Year 5 pupils to explore the rules of grammar in detail and aim to expand their vocabulary in a fun and educational way.

English Writing: This class will equip year 5 pupils with necessary knowledge and writing skills required for 11 plus examinations. The students will learn the various writing styles and how they are structured along with necessary grammar and vocabulary skills. In addition to writing techniques, students will also learn time management in an exam situation.

Vocabulary: This class aims to expand students’ vocabulary within context. Each class is structured around fun and engaging topic areas and includes decoding skills, word formation methods, synonyms and antonyms to help boost learning.
Year 6: Independent Schools & Scholarships
The Year 6 Scholarship and Independent School (and further Grammar School Preparation) Course prepares pupils to a very high level with the aim of achieving Scholarships and Bursaries to schools in the Independent sector.

This course also prepares children for their 11+ and Common Entrance examinations into all Independent Schools and is useful preparation for any children sitting Grammar Schools with second stage exams in Maths and English.

Interview technique and practice will also be included for those children sitting 11+ exams for private schools.
Year 7 to Year 9: Senior Reading
